Introduction

Welcome to the Black Sheep Squadron home page. We are located on the West Side of Indianapolis in Danville. We are an R/C Model Aircraft Club that caters to all interests in the aviation world. We have sport flyers, fun flyers, control line flyers, glider flyers, helicopter flyers and instructors that can help you if your just starting!

This club is open to anyone! Please feel free to join us at our field or at the club meetings, we would enjoy your company. The home page will let you know when our functions are, and where we are located. (Enjoy!)

HISTORY OF THE CLUB

Our club was started in 1990 approximately 3 miles East of its present site. The first 4 years that this club was in existence, we flew off of Mr. Dan Hay's farm sight. In 1994 he lost the property and our club would have to find a new home.

A few months later, the Waste Management Company in Danville made the club an offer to have the flying field located on their property. This was great news to our members! Twin Bridges Recycling and the club come to an agreement in terms and this great relationship got it's start. They provided to the club the lumber and rock to build our shelter house and parking lot. Then Twin Bridges moved us to our current location just east of the Twin Bridges office. Once again, they prepared a runway, clubhouse and parking area. The club members have all pitched in to make the site a truly wonderful model aircraft complex. On May 20, 2006, we moved to this field.

The club's by laws would only permit us to have 25 members and within a few meetings, the membership was opened with no membership limits. We soon had 100+ members. The club is now incorporated and is listed as non-profit. The funds that are taken in are used for improving the field and to help the club reach out to the local community. Our current community projects include choosing a support organization each holiday season, trainer sessions for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Adopt-A-Hiway and supporting the Nutrition Club at Danville Elementary Schools. For the past several years we have held an rc airshow first weekend in August as part of AMA's National Model Aviation Day with all our fundraising efforts going to Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation (HVAF). We have been the top money raising club in the coutnry for 5 years in a row.

If you feel like this is the type of club that you would like to be a part of, please contact any member, come to a meeting on the first Wednesday of the month or come to the flying field.
